Positive Behavior Interventions: Tools that Challenge the School to Prison Pipeline:
The use of exclusionary disciplinary practices places many children with disabilities at risk for short- and long-term adverse outcomes, including lower achievement, increased likelihood of not graduating, and the risk of early exposure to the juvenile justice system. In this session, participants will:
Learn about the school-to-prison pipeline and how zero-tolerance discipline practices ultimately prime youth for early exposure to the justice system and influence the suspension and graduation rates of students with disabilities and those of low economic status.
Learn about Manifestation Determination Meetings, Functional Behavior Assessments and effective Positive Behavior Intervention Plans.
