There are laws and programs in place to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities.

Disability and Special Education Laws

The three federal laws that protect the rights of individuals with disabilities are: Americans with Disabilities Act, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Special Education Eligibility

Under IDEA, states are responsible for meeting the special needs of eligible children. To receive special education services, under IDEA Part B, children and youth must be between the ages of 3–21.
